The 'Lanche pays tribute to Marquette's proud traditions and unforgettable memories. Named after Marquette's 'Golden Avalanche' that stormed the gridiron and the iconic bar that carried its legacy, this spirited cocktail bridges generations. B&G celebrates everyone in blue and gold. Story

The Blue and Gold Team 

Four Marquette University seniors were selected for the project, with the goal of gaining hands-on experience across various aspects of business. Under the mentorship of prominent Milwaukee business leaders, the students took 'Lanche from concept to a fully realized product.

The Name

The name "The 'Lanche" was born from a blend of research, creativity, and a deep appreciation for Marquette University's rich history. We wanted a name that subtly paid homage to Marquette’s past while feeling fresh, fun, and memorable.

For decades, The Avalanche Bar was a beloved institution for Marquette students—a place filled with tradition, camaraderie, and legendary nights. Known for its signature red, white, and blue beer and the infamous sliding ritual at closing time, The Avalanche left an enduring mark on generations of students before its doors sadly closed in 1997.

The bar itself took inspiration from Marquette’s "Golden Avalanche" football team, a powerhouse that earned its name during a dominant winning streak in 1923. Just like the team and the bar, The 'Lanche carries forward the spirit of celebration, tradition, and the unstoppable energy that has always defined Marquette.

The Can Design 

The 'Lanche can design is a bold tribute to Marquette University’s rich athletic history, blending nostalgia with a fresh, eye-catching look. Conceptualized by the Blue and Gold students and brought to life by Carl Collective, the design was crafted to stand out in the hands of consumers while seamlessly connecting to the beverage’s flavor and story.

We incorporated a subtle lemon icon with football laces, a nod to the university’s Golden Avalanche football team and the legacy behind The ‘Lanche name.

With its bright, energetic design and refreshing lemon-lime flavor, The ‘Lanche is more than just a drink—it’s a celebration of Marquette pride, past and present.

Central Standard

Central Standard, a leading distillery, brought the students’ vision for a canned cocktail to life, creating a delicious final product. Jim Kanter and Pat McQuillan have been instrumental in every step of the process, from distilling to distribution. Through this collaboration, the students have gained invaluable insights and experience. Thank you to Central Standard for being a great partner. 

Carl Collective 

To further emphasize the student-led nature of the project, the can’s design was created by Carl Collective, a full-service, student-run marketing and communications agency based in Milwaukee. The creativity and attention to detail was what set the 'Lanche apart from other beverages through the design of the can and advertising. The Blue and Gold Brewing team gives a huge thanks to Carl Collective.
